LG Announces KOMPRESSOR FOLLOW ME™ and HOM-BOT Robotic Vacuum Cleaners

Advancing the state of the art for home vacuum cleaner technology, LG Electronics (LG) showcased its new KOMPRESSOR® FOLLOW METM vacuum, a canister unit featuring technology that enables it to automatically follow the user while operational, and the latest HOM-BOT, LG’s flagship robotic vacuum cleaner, at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (booth #8204).

Through its automatic movement and dust compression technology, the KOMPRESSOR® FOLLOW METM enables a more convenient and efficient cleaning experience,” said Moon-bum Shin, Executive Vice President and CEO of LG Electronics Home Appliance Company. “In addition, LG’s HOM-BOT robotic vacuum is packed with innovative technology in its circular body, including a unique combination of dual cameras and ultrasonic and infrared sensors to help make cleaning an effortless job while minimizing collisions.”

KOMPRESSOR® FOLLOW ME™ with Automated Moving Technology

LG’s new bagless vacuum cleaner mirrors the user’s movements, so consumers no longer need to constantly carry the canister from room to room when vacuuming. Using Automatic Location Recognition Technology and Active Following Wheel Technology, the vacuum cleaner uses four interconnected sensors located on its body and handle to monitor and maintain a comfortable distance of approximately 3.3 feet from the user. Sensors installed on the body automatically detect the handle’s movement. Following detection, the sensors trigger the Active Following Wheel Technology to enable effortless, smooth and paced movement in accordance with the user.

The KOMPRESSOR® FOLLOW METM is equipped with LG’s patented KOMPRESSOR® technology, which uses a motorized dust compression system within the bagless bin to compress dust intake. This technology also reduces messy dust clouds when emptying the dustbin. Additionally, this model features LG’s unique multi-layer filter to enhance air quality and reduce noise levels to 58dB for less obtrusive operation.

Hom-Bot For Smarter, Faster, More Efficient Cleaning

With its Dual Eye mapping navigation, LG’s HOM-BOT (LrV5900) employs advanced navigation technology via cameras and sensors so it can clean smarter, faster and more efficiently. Its upper camera scans ceiling surfaces taking up to 30 images per second, which are analyzed to generate mapping information. At the same time, its IR sensors detect obstacles, such as stairs or furniture, while its optical flow sensor takes up to 2,000 surface images per second to help provide collision-free operation. The HOM-BOT can sense which spaces have been cleaned to minimize repeated cleaning of the same area. Two auto and two manual cleaning modes let consumers choose the most efficient cleaning method for their home.

At 3.5 inches high, the HOM-BOT’s low profile enables it to maneuver around the home with ease, even under furniture. Users will also enjoy a host of convenience features including auto docking and recharging functions, as well as a dust bin which can be easily removed and emptied. Additionally, through a voice alert system, the HOM-BOT is able to communicate status updates such as when cleaning is complete or if the unit is returning to the docking station to recharge.

The HOM-BOT was named a 2012 CES Innovation Award Honoree.
